YouTube launches new video-sharing feature in Canada, invite-only elsewhere [Video]
YouTube has tested a new chat feature that lets users share videos and have conversations with friends and family right within the video network app. Today, Google officially launched the new feature, but only in Canada…
The new YouTube sharing option builds on the current feature that lets you quickly share videos with people outside of the app. Starting today, Canadian YouTube users should start seeing an updated sharing tab in their mobile app that will house all of their shared videos and conversations.
The new sharing feature works as follows: First, you go to the Sharing tab of the YouTube app and add your friends and family as contacts. Once they accept, you can start sharing videos with individuals or groups. Since the new sharing feature is conversation-centric, you basically have another messaging app made by Google.
According to Google, this new sharing feature is first being introduced in Canada, as users there share 15% more than others in the world.
If you’re not in Canada but want to try out this new feature, you can ask one of your friends to add you to a conversation on their end. Once added, you will be able to share and start your own conversations with others. The new sharing feature is now available for Android and iOS.
