Sakurai’s YouTube Videos Are Already Being Used In Game Development Classes
Masahiro Sakurai’s YouTube channel (where he explains various concepts and details of game development and understanding) is already kicking off, with over 700,000 subscribers and hundreds of thousands of views per video. And the high-quality laconic style, easily accessible to viewers, has already found its place among more established institutions, namely the classroom.

Artist Jokario aka Adri was in game development class when she and everyone else saw Sakurai’s tree shading video, “Draw the light, not the asset.“Keep in mind that the full course was two hours and 45 minutes long, so it wasn’t used as a substitute or even in-depth material – more of a basic primer to introduce the subject. And honestly, that seems like a perfect use of Sakurai’s videos: succinct introductions to topics that a teacher can then explain as needed.
It’s really neat, and we can imagine we’ll see more videos of Sakurai in game development classes in the future. You can verify his channel yourself for more videos.
