How to Download YouTube Videos to Your iPhone

Compared to other streaming services, learning how to download YouTube videos to your iPhone isn’t as easy a process as it could be. If you have ever used Netflix, Disney Plus, watched a Apple TV Plus showor with one of the popular streaming services, you’ve probably come across a scenario where you wanted to watch the service’s content offline, and it was a relatively simple exercise.

Whether it’s a plane, a train, or another automobile, we’ve all found ourselves in a scenario where enjoying our favorite TV shows and movies had to happen without the benefit of a Wi-Fi or cellular connection. Luckily, most streaming services offer the ability to download at least some titles to their platform for offline viewing.

But what about YouTube? What if I want to watch MKBHD, Rene Ritchie or iJustine when I’m on a plane? Well, YouTube also allows users to download videos from the platform for offline viewing. Howeverit is reserved for a subset of users.

Download videos with YouTube Premium

Right now you must be a YouTubePremium subscriber in order to responsibly download videos from the video service to your iPhone, as YouTube states that downloading videos is otherwise a violation of their terms of service.

YouTube Premium currently costs $11.99 per month or $22.99 for YouTube Premium for Families, which lets you share your Premium subscription with up to five members of the same household.

If you sign up for YouTube Premium or are already a member, you are ready to download a video from YouTube. Keep in mind that downloaded videos stay in the YouTube app, just like Netflix and other streaming services. So don’t uninstall the YouTube app before jumping on the plane or you’ll delete all the videos you just downloaded. Not that anyone is uninstalling YouTube anyway.

YouTube, like other streaming services, has made it easier to download and play videos offline, although it’s not immediately obvious who can do this. If you’re about to go on vacation and want to enjoy your favorite YouTubers on the plane, YouTube Premium is a no-brainer so you can watch videos anywhere, even without a Wi-Fi or cellular connection.
